I don't put all the of the blame on President Bush, he didn't elect himself. The people who voted for him have to take credit for some of the mess, and make sure that they don't vote for someone who has voted WITH President Bush on most issues since Bush has been in office ...say McCain for example.

Saundra's Comments: List three policies implemented by President Bush which were not approved by the Democratic Congress and in which John McCain agreed with and state how those policies caused the financial crisis that we are now facing. Sorry for the homework assignment, but I'm not convinced readers making these types of comments know the facts.

"I'm sorry if I confuse you with George Bush, but you're policies are exactly the same."

CNN Poll

Who did the best job in the debate?

Independents

McCain (R) 31
Obama (D) 57

Republicans

McCain (R) 68
Obama (D) 18

Democrats

McCain (R) 5
Obama (D) 88

CBS Poll:

McCain 22
Obama 53

CNN poll of voters who watched debate:

Who won the debate?

McCain (R) 31
Obama (D) 58

Favorable/Unfavorable

Obama, before debate: 63/35
Obama, after debate: 66/33

McCain, before debate: 51/45
McCain, after debate: 49/49

Numbers suck, huh?

Saundra's Comments: Like I said, people quoting Obama's comparison to Bush are conveniently choosing to ignore McCain's proposals. As far as the debate numbers go, people see what they want to see at a debate. I think both candidates did well, and I agree that Obama is the better orator. However the fundamental difference between the two candidates is that Obama wants to raise taxes and increase the size and spending of our government. McCain is opposed to tax increases, wants to impose a spending freeze, will work towards a smaller government and has vowed for a balanced budget. I will choose a candidate who believes in my fiscally conservative principles over one with sharp debating skills.

I agree that we are quickly moving towards a socialist society and it makes me nervous. I have worked very hard for what I have and everytime I look at how much money my husband and I pay in taxes and then look at the way that money is often wasted by the government I get upset. However, I don't think the Republican party is all that different (in spending) from the Democrats anymore which is why I'm voting Libertarian.

Ginny, it was a law that she had the power to repeal. The fact that rape kits provide emergency contraception contributed to her decision not to repeal that law. State Senators do not have the authority to overturn those decisions/rulings. Apples to oranges, and you miss the mark. Fail. She had every opportunity to overturn that decision, since her town was the only one in Alaska to uphold that decision.

Wolf paw: http://aspcacommunity.ning.com/

She was found to have abused the power of her office by a panel of 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. That hardly seems partisan to me. This is the first ticket is American history where both the Presidential and Vice Presidential nominee have been brought up on charges of ethics violations.

You guys rock.

Saundra's Comments: Thank you. We know we rock. Just a clarification: the State Senate and House make the laws and repeal the laws (by creating another law repealing the first one.) Once a law is passed by both the House and the Senate the Governor signs it into law, or vetos it. I'm sure if we look hard enough we could find many laws in Alaska that were created before Palin was Governor and which should be repealed. Should we blame Palin for all of those as well?

Yes, I can see where some would favor a male legislature that strongly supports infanticide and charges women for rape kits, as opposed to a female mayor who tries to save lives and has zero control over laws made by the legislature and is common throughout the United States.

The feigned upset is beyond ridiculous. It's transparent.

I agree with the above posters- let's look beyond the fact that she is a woman and take a look at her character as well as the choices she has made for Alaska- I am embarrassed to have a woman like her represent me.

What I forgot about the rape kits:

Sarah had ZERO say so in the HOSPITALS policy to charge insurance companies for the rape kits. The law permitting this was created by Alaska's legislators.

Sarah had ZERO control over that issue.

Great post Saundra.

Three Degrees, SHE did no such thing. The city of Wasilla charged insurance companies for the kit if the victim had insurance. Sarah had ZERO input in this.

Newsflash: It's also done in Illinois- you know that state where Senator Obama was once a lawmaker? Will the next headline read Barack Obama charges rape victims for their rape kits? I doubt it.

As for the rest - it's absolute bunk. She acted well within her rights as the Governor. However, an Obama supporter on the panel decided he THOUGHT the refusal to fire a violent cop played a minor part in Sarah's decision to fire whatshisname (I just drew a blank).

I've never heard the wolf paw charge. You come up with some crazy stuff.

Jodapoet, as for AK-47's so what? Who says the only reason to own a weapon is to hunt or for self defense? Certainly not the Constitution. If law abiding citizens want to own an AK-47 who are you to say "no?" Who are you to decide what it's acceptable to own and when?
